Our flower gal, Klair, recently visited Washington, DC to partake in the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. She shares with us what she experienced below:
"Washington, DC rings in spring and celebrates the friendship between the United States and Japan each year with a beautiful ritual: the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
There are more than 3700 Cherry Blossom trees, each of which receives specialized, individual attention. The trees usually blossom around April 4th. When I visited Washington, DC for the opening weekend, the entire Tidal Basin was flooded in a sea of pink and white blossoms in peak bloom!
It was quite windy, which made the weather perfect for the Smithsonian Kite Festival! We visited the Cherry Trees in the Tidal Basin near Jefferson memorial and took in the entire scenery.
The Cherry Blossom Festival is breathtaking and the smell is intoxicating! This year's festival runs through April 10, 2011. I highly recommend visiting the Festival if you're in the DC area. You won't regret it!"
